CBRF Covid-19 Relief Assistance
The country has seen the emergence of a Novel Corona Virus on 31 December 2019, officially referred to as COVID-19. There is no specific treatment for people who are sick with Corona Virus, and no vaccine to prevent the disease. The virus can cause a range of symptoms, ranging from mild illness to pneumonia. Symptoms of the disease are fever, cough, sore throat and headaches. In severe cases, difficulty in breathing and death can occur.
CBRF has given Covid 19 support to 38 projects across India. Our partners are proactively working to educate Persons with Disabilities on Covid 19. As per WHO advice, our CBR team is sensitizing those in the village on washing hands frequently with soap, maintaining physical distance, wearing masks, covering the mouth when coughing and sneezing, covering the mouth and nose with flexed elbow, avoiding spitting in public places, avoiding close contact with anyone who has fever and cough, staying at home (self-isolation) to protect others.
The CBRF teamand the field level CBR teams have spread awareness through WhatsApp group messages, telephone calls, social media, face book, online meetings and short videos educating the community and PwDs across project villages.
The people are also being educated on Government schemes like Disability Pensions, free ration, Women Jan Dhan Account holders, daily wage labourers’ allowances, Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), Pradhan Mantri KisanSamman Nidhi, MGNREGA, etc.
The field level CBR teams at NGO level, in collaboration with Aasha and Anganwadi workers, have facilitated access to rations from the public distribution system, eggs and nutritious food for children and pregnant women, sanitizers, soaps, hygiene kits for women with disabilities. Medical camps were organized for Persons with Disabilities and they were facilitated to access medicines required to manage their disability. They have also arranged psycho-social support for those who needed the same.
